Agnes Kagure Kariuki was born 1974. She is a Kenyan insurance executive and businesswoman. Agnes is the founder and Managing Principal of The Insurance Consulting Group (ICG), an independent insurance agency in Kenya. Before founding ICG, Agnes was the Executive Financial Advisor at CFC Stanbic and was involved in the merger between American Life Insurance Company (ALICO) and CFC Bank to form CFC Life Assurance Limited.

Agnes Kagure Kariuki Early life and education

Kariuki was born in 1974 in Gitathii-ini village in Nyeri County. She went to school at Tetu Girls primary school until 1989. She proceeded to Kangubiri High School where she obtained a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 1993. Kariuki graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from Chiang Mai Rajabhat University (Thailand), in 2014.

Agnes started working as a sales associate with American Life Insurance Company (Kenya) Limited – ALICO[1] now Liberty Holdings Limited (now Liberty Holdings Limited) immediately after completing high school. She moved from a sales associate to a senior agency manager in 2000. In November 2004 she was involved in the merger between her company ALICO and CFC Bank into CFC Life Assurance Limited. A year later, she was named an executive financial advisor, a post she held until 2011 when she left the company.

Agnes Kariuki is married to Isaac Kariuki, a career civil servant and is a mother of two children. She lives with her family in Nairobi.

In 2011, Kariuki was named by Business Daily Africa to their “Top 40 women under 40” annual list of women who have risen to occupy positions of influence in Kenya before the age of 40.

She was named by the Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) as Agent of the Year for 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2013.

On July 2018, Mrs Karuiki was elected patron of the Kenya University Students’ Organisation (KUSO) and is a recipient of the prestigious award of peace ambassador by the King of Thailand.

Agnes Kagure Kariuki Nominated for Nairobi Deputy Governor Position

Agnes Kariuki is one of the women nominated for the Nairobi County deputy governor position. The other nominees are Bishop Wanjiru, Dennis Waweru and Simon Mbugua.

Speaking on Churchill Show, She said if appointed Nairobi Deputy Governor, her main focus would be to ensure Nairobi residents get enough supply of water. “It’s not an easy task,” she said. “It will be an expensive exercise, but I will start by training Nairobians on re-using water.”

Kagure vowed to support whoever gets the job is she’s not picked. “I want to thank Governor Sonko for believing in women,” she said. He role models are the late Nobel Laureate and Greenbelt movement crusader Prof Wangari Maathai and Croatian president Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic.
